The Justice Department says court documents establish that Lytvynenko conspired to deploy Conti, extort victims, and steal their data. It says evidence from his online accounts included data stolen from eight U.S. victims and four overseas victims, and that he admitted working on a malware loader for the conspiracy.

DOJ says Conti infected more than 1,000 victims worldwide and was used against networks in 47 U.S. states, 31 foreign countries, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
